New car warrenty?????

I am looking very seriously at a 2004 Chrysler Sebring with a six under the hood. I have been told that they drilled the oil holes in the block of these engines undersize. As a result the holes block with sludge very easily especially if you fail with timely oil changes. Because of this shortcoming Chrysler will not honor the warrenty unless you can document proper and timely maintenance. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

I own a dodge with a 2.7 (a95) but every other oil change I run a can of motor flush thru it to keep sludge out, but dodges are like everything else today built with cheap parts and we have replaced to many sensors on this car, avoid that dodge product unless you just got to have one.

i am a dodge employee and see this all the time. you are correct about the sludging. the 2.7 in any car will do it. the best way to combat it is to change oil every 2500 miles. not everybody does. i have yet to not see an engine be covered in our dealership, yet we havn't seen many need an engine either. over all i think they are okay cars.

It seems to me that it's going to be quite obvious when they tear down the engine whether it's sludged up or not. All the receipts in the world aren't going to change the dealer's mind if there's a half inch of sludge inside the valve covers.

I guess I'm a little baffled as to why you would consider buying a vehicle with a known problem this serious. By the way, it's not just Chrysler: I hear some of the older Nissans had this same problem; miss an oil change and you just bought an engine.

I don't understand your question. I certainly do not make my decisions about anything just because of stories I hear. Otherwise, I would never buy any car. As far as this story about bad warranty attitudes, it is looking more and more like it is just the lie of a competing salesman.

Without knowing which 6 cylinder it is difficult to answer. There are two used in the Sebring, the coupes being the old trusted 3.0. The other 6 is a 2.7 and though it is somewhat a new design seems to be OK. Just have whoever does the services validate them in the service record book.

Well, I see I got just about what I expected. Nobody, really tried to answer the question I put forward, did get my spelling corrected though. As far as the quality of cars are concerned I believe it is stupid to say one or another is better. They are made mostly by the same people one way or another(worked in several auto-supplier shops over the years) I have made products for Ford, Chrysler and GM. Like it or lump it, the truth that I have witnessed is,they are all basically the same. I have put 265,000 miles on my last Dodge. When I retired it the engine was still as good as new, burned no oil with 5000 mile oil changes done with the cheapest Wal-mart oil and filters. and not counting tires, oil and filters I do not remember one single repair job on that car. I buy mostly Ford and Chryler and I expect 250,000 miles from a vehicle and I have always got at least that much. I have never had transmission nor engine trouble from a car. So where do all these prejudiced people come from?

When I want to find out something like that or a general trouble shooting problem I call or go to the local junk yards. These people are usually knowledgeable about failure trends.

There is a small head rebuilding shop where I take my tractor valves when I need them ground. Last trip I asked the owner "are you keeping busy"? He replied, "yup and thank God for Chrysler". No more comment was necessary

SO???
Look at the suggested oil change interval, it is excessively long. Change the oil at the interval you think is right and let the dealer change the oil at the manufacturer suggested interval. For example GM says change the oil in a Duramax every 10,000 miles I change every 3,000 and every third change the dealer does a change. It is documented to their satisfaction and you get the oil changed when you want it done. One little detail to be aware of; some dealers will tell you if you don't use their oil filter it voids the warrenty--it doesn't. Here's how to deal with that. At your favorite filter dealer--and that NOT Advance Auto or other discount store--he will have a copy of the LAW that says if the dealer insists you must use their filters then the dealer must provide the filter at no cost.
I had a BMW dealer try that stunt and I just handed him a copy of the law, he didn't even read it just changed his mind. They know the law and are hoping you don't.
By the way synethic(sp) oil should be changed every 6,000 or 7,000 miles. I discovered this through some internet research. That is what the racing sites are puting out. I suspect the interval will change with further development but for now I change synthetic every 6,000.

I guess I didn't make it quite clear enough, just what I was after. As far as oil changes go I have always done my own, and will never be forced to let some kid at the dealer do it. Why should the automaker force me to spend more money on a product that is already overprice and to top it off, it is known to be deficient. It was told to me that this condition exist and I was looking to verify only if it was true and what the manufactor's attitude was. Chrysler product have always been quality product by my experience and I have had a lot of confidence in the company. It is my gut feeling that this story is just gossip put out by salesmen who's financial interest is tied to other manufactors.

I had one chrysler car and will never have another. A friend of mine owns a dealership and
convinced me to buy a new Eagle vision (intreped)
by far the worst car I've ever owned. The tranny
went out at 30000 easy miles, cost me $1800 to fix.Everyone I've known with a dodge chrysler
product has had tranny problems, even in the trucks.A local dealer told me they put 5 tranny's
in a Jeep cherokee before they found a good one.
These were factory rebuilt tranny's,he's since
hired his own tranny teck.

I am not familar with that model or that engine.I would suggest to find out how long that peticular engine has been built. If it has been around for awhile go check out the used cars out there and see how many miles they have racked up.If it is a new design I'd be cautious.Bottom line on any warranty is how good the local dealer is and will they back you up. I am familar with some of those rumors concerning Dodge trucks, bad brakes wear out fast, not true as I have 160,000 miles and am still on the first set of pads I replaced after the originals worn around 90,000
Auto Transmissions are junk ? I am still moving after 160,000 miles I have developed a slight upshift problem from 2nd to 3rd in cold weather but very intermitant and some of that tranny snake oil treatments seem to help. I have however found out that Dana must of got a bad batch of differential side bearings as mine went bad just like the local Jeep dealer said the Cherokee ones do.Mine is a 1996 model.

You do not have to have the oil changed by a dealer just keep reciepts for your oil and filters. I would argue with chrysler being quality product anyway,in my opinion they are junk. Used to work for a chrysler dealer. By the way it's spelled
WARRANTY.

I have found that most transmission problems are caused by the nut that holds the steering wheel.

Wife bought a new 03 Toyota Camry. We purchased it in Aug.2003. Right now we are having dealer change oil every 3000 miles. We use it mostly for city driving. Even at changing the oil at 3000 miles I can tell the difference in the way the engine runs. Toyota reccommends oil change at 5000 mi.
