Good idea. Would advise wherever possible to do that. I sometimes need to buy at 3-4000 miles distance over the pond, so have to adopt a strategy as to how honest a seller is.
I can usually tell how honest a seller is. Not been caught too often, but always run the risk....
You need to know what you are "looking" at, know the usual faults of that machine, and ask the questions in the right way. An unsatisfactory answer or "hedging around" a subject rings the alarm bells. Saying that, most sellers are reasonably honest - just that nasty minority who are always trying to deceive, pull a fast one or simply fleece you.
