Well, here's the wrap up. Called Tim Gray (seller) and mentioned advice received said I'd send full transport cost of $450.00 and send full purchase price to an escrow account of his choice so he'd have it as soon as the tractor arrived. Didn't even get a chance to finish. He said they're using it now to move manuer and he already told me how it'd be and that's that - nice talkin' to ya. and hung up. Probably would have been fine. It's probably just the tractor I need - a clean Ford 3000 ( I need something around 45hp to run haying equipment) but you guys are right about the gamble. What bothers me is it's so unnecessary. What if we all just set a better standard so noone gets burned? For example say, Buyer always pays transport to his/her location. Full payment is held at seller's attorney office of choice. Whoever transports tractor calls upon arrival and says I'm here guy is ready to unload and money is released. Done. Noone is at risk. If tractor is as advertized everyone is happy. If buyer is too picky or unreasonable than he/she is out transport cost. Too bad about this deal but he wouldn't even discuss it. Bart
