Selig, There is absolutely nothing wrong with negotiating a salary or an hourly rate. There is however something wrong with the union attitude that companies exist to provide jobs and that they owe someone a job. There is also something wrong when unions protect slackers, absenteeism, riding disability, promotions based on seniority rather than skill, and expecting to be paid for services not rendered or earned. That isnt looking for a better life, thats GREED at its highest level. Something is also wrong when a union employee is sexually harrassed by another union employee, and the union lawyers represent whomever knocks on the door first. Thats not wanting to be better and live better, thats GREED. The relationship between labor and management should be a working partnership, but more often than not its an adversarial encounter. Its WE vs. Them. i am not anti union as you may infer, but unions have cost a lot of jobs by outpricing themselves out of the labor market. Is it better to work for a sensible wage that allows a company to stay in business, or i s it better to be so arrogant as to say that you wont work for less than top dollar and then be unemployed because the company just moved away? REmember that when you refuse to work for less than you think you are worth and get laid off, that you are now recieving money from a lot of workers who are willing to work for less than you do. Thats GREED. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be better and live better, in fact it is an admirable trait as long as you're willing to work for it and earn it.
