Wet Sanding Gas Tank And Fenders

I finally have restored my 1948 farmall cub thanks to all my farmall tractor friends and their help Now I want to wetsand the tank and fenders I have never done this before I just bought a buffer but I need to know what type of sand paper and materials to use Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated thanks bill
