Oil flow question

Have an Allis D10. At the oil filter mount, there is a tube that sticks in the oil filter when it is screwed on .Oil flows up this tube into the filter. Evidently, this tube was lost, and replaced with a solid stud, cutting off the flow of oil at the filter.Would this cause the tractor to smoke excessively? Have ruled out rings.Also, what damage could this cause? Thanks in advance, Scott
