Thanks for the reply. I'm sure its a stud, it looks to have been cut off with a hack saw.When I said I had ruled out the rings, I thought that because there was such good compression, that the problem was not here. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm learning a lot. I've sent the head to be redone. When I get it back, and put it back together, I guess I'll find the answer. If the oil control rings are bad, can I replace them without replacing anything else? Thanks, Scott
