OT - motion detector gate light (Long)

I am fed up with vandals messing with my ranch gate and trying to steal my electric gate opener etc. The problem is that it is about 1 mile from my house to the road and I have no way to install an electric security light as I have no 110v power nearby. I do have a nice 12v system that is solar trickle charged that powers my gate opener. I have a plywood battery box with two 6 volt golf cart batteries that gives me mucho reserve power. I was thinking of pole mounting an overhead security light that consists of a 12v headlamp and then hooking that up to a motion sensor and the light would stay on for say 5 minutes each detection. I have plenty of battery power for it all but I am stumped on the motion detector. I bought one for a 110v light in my stupidness, but I now realize that it does not work on 12v dc. Any suggestions on what to do about all this. I would appreciate any experiences and ideas concerning gate openers and lights and security. Thanks in advance for any help!!
