Are Perkins / Kubota engines any good?

I'm writing a report about Perkins engines and Kubota engines and would very much appreciate any input from someone who has an experience/opinion, good or bad, with either make of engine. Just looking for stuff like: are they reliable? do they give good performance? do they give value for money? would you buy another Perkins/Kubota powered vehicle? which of the two is better? etc. Thanks for any help.
