I have been working on my F350, have been having some problems with my batteries running down with my Boss Plow on there.
I have a Chilton manual, and I was curious about my alternator so I ran a test on the charging system the other day. I checked the battery voltage before I started the truck and I had 12.6 volts. The truck had not been running for at least as full day. I started the truck and immediately checked it again and had 11.6 volts. The truck was at idle, 700 rpms.
My manual says the voltage after I start should be higher than the voltage before I start. I cannot understand that. Can anyone explain that to me?
In a couple minutes the truck increases the idle to 1000 rpms and at that point the voltage is around 14, maybe that is what the manual is referring to?
Anyway, I did the check like it says, turned on everything, even left the interior light on, and had around 13. 7 volts at 2000 rpms like it says to do.
