I was contacted a month ago by the daughter of one of our club members who passed away a year ago about how to dispose of his collection. So last Sunday, I go to see what is there. Over 20 tractors, primarily IH, Case 580 CK backhoe-loader, shop tools etc. No more than 2 of these were in any condition to start and run. Farmall M's, H's, C's and a F30 along with a 424 and a 574.
All of these were partially disassembled and awaiting some repair that never happened.
Am I wrong to assume that a non-running tractor is worth about half or less than a runner. None of these are "rare" models and with scrap value at 5 cents a pound minus the weight of the rubber brings an M to about 200 dollars.
There isn't enough room on the property to hold an auction, I suggested something like Purple Wave.com to move these all at one time. I would like to see her receive the most value for them, but under the circumstances a quick sale would be preferred.
If given the opportunity, would something like a silent auction, where everyone would place a bid in an envelope next to the sale item work? Bad thing is it would evolve a second trip if they were the winning bidders.
Thank's for your ideas and input into this difficult problem.

You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
