When I added the alternator to my M, the parts store sold me a single pole, internally regulated alternator. Easy to install, only one wire coming from it, sounded good so I bought it. However, I'm finding that if the battery voltage drops below 12.45 volts, the thing doesn't want to charge, even at full throttle. I've got a new 12v battery. When I put the charger on it, and make sure it's topped off, the alternator charges, but it usually has to go to full throttle before it starts, then I can back off on the rpm's and it will keep charging. Is there any way I can solve this problem, short of buying another alternator?
