I just bought a 1971 Case 580 that I was told ran but I never heard it run. (Yes you can yell at me later) After I said I would buy it The nice lady told me that they had always run gasoline in it. I am not sure I believe her as it is a 188D diesel engine. I assume she misunderstood her now late husbands "gassing up the tractor". After I got it home I drained the fuel tank and 2 fuel filters and replaced the gas that was in it with diesel. Engine cranks over but won't start. I bled the system per service manual which is just the bleed screw on top of second filter. Still not running. I cracked one injector line @ injector and cranked it over still no fuel. I unscrewed injector line @ pump and no fuel when cranked over. I cleaned screan at fuel into injector pump and there is fuel getting to there. I have read thru the archives and someone said that cranking the engine with gasoline in the fuel pump can ruin the pump, How can I tell? Also what else do I try or check or do?

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
