lemmond1, You need the same batteries. If you use an old one with a new one or if you have 2 different types (CCA etc) then you will have short battery life. You would be better off to just buy 2 new batteries just alike and you will get good life from them. However like other poster said about something wrong with the tractor. That is very possible and should be checked out. BUT remember you need 2 matching batteries to last even with a good charging system.
