Other then the Exide 6 volt bat at Tractor Supply are there any other well known company that makes them? I've had good and bad experiances with the Exides so I thought I would try else were first.

Johnson Controls makes batteries for Sears & they have 6 volts. I don't know who makes Wally Worlds batteries but I have had real good luck with them. Gerald

I have had good luck with Deere 6V in my old tractors, not sure who makes them. I read once they are Johnson Control.

We just bought a Dura-start by Exide yesterday, 625 CCA @ 0F. $40 at L&M. The one it's replacing is 11 years old and held a charge last summer, it's in a JD M that gets used very little. We are selling the M and the buyer didn't haggle on the price so I want him to have a new battery. We just don't use the M any more and we need the garage space for a Farmall C that we use for mowing.

Lots of labels on a battery but only a few factories making them labels dont mean anything. Here we get Dura-Start they seem to work well.

I just purchased a JD 6 volt battery. So far so good. I have tried six other brands and they went dead after using them a few hours. On my JD 4430 it tkes 2 six volt batteries. I still have one of the cheaper battery on the other side. When it goes bad, I will replace it with a JD battey. The Jd battery costs $130 whereas the other batter cost $91 at Orschelins. The JD battery is made by Exide. Acid was put in after it was bought. Roy

I have gotten good service out of the Dura-Start 6v's which are Excides. The quality of Interstate has definately declined.

East Penn / Dekka seems to make a good battery. Around here you can buy them as NAPA or Carquest brand though I usderstand that this is not consistent throughout the country... so you may want to check at the counter and inquire as to who supplied the battery.
Beyond that the only sure way I know to get an East Penn is at the Cat dealer. They are about the same price as NAPA here privided either one doesn't have a sale on the go at the time....
They WILL be the higher priced battery in the marketplace... so if cheap is what you're seeking then you probably will not end up at this destination.

We have an Exide warehouse here in Sioux Falls. You can walk in and buy batteries from them and they have seconds on hand. If you want one of those, they peal the old label off and put another sticker on it. They manufacture for a lot of other companies including JD, Dura Start, Case-IH and we used to be able to get ones for Dodges from them but lately they haven't had them in. The seconds are supposed to be ones that have sat on the shelve for a certain amount of time and then are returned for fresh ones.

lemmond1,
You need the same batteries. If you use an old one with a new one or if you have 2 different types (CCA etc) then you will have short battery life. You would be better off to just buy 2 new batteries just alike and you will get good life from them. However like other poster said about something wrong with the tractor. That is very possible and should be checked out. BUT remember you need 2 matching batteries to last even with a good charging system.

To lemond1,

When you have batteries in series or parallel, you should replace BOTH batteries at the same time with batteries of the same brand and with as near a possible the same date code/build date.

I use to deal with a battery warehouse down here. All the batteries were blank until they had an order for a brand. Then the stickers went on. So I think only a very few make their own batteries.
