Computers have been a hobby of mine for about 10 years. You can get quite a lot of computer nowadays for next to nothing. Check out www.newegg.com for good deals on laptops and electronics. If your old laptop is a few years old and still runs Windows XP you could max out the memory and put a bigger and faster harddrive in it and run it a while longer if money is a little tight right now. My preference would be an Acer just because of the warranty. Good luck.
