JD,I bought a brand new 4040 in 1980.it would burn over 7 gph of fuel, would nt start below 55' without either. But it was a really nice tractor to run.I later replaced it(sadly?I lost the 4040)with an old beat up 856.it pulled the same plow 2mph faster on half the fuel and started at any temp.I been IH ever since.seems that the JDs burn lots more fuel, and need to be wound up to prduce any power.
