The noises mean the bearing probably went bad, wore out, & the bearing inside your hub fell apart. If nothing else on the spindle or hub got hurt, should be a very easy fix, not too expensive. Take things apart, clean off the old grease, & take the parts to a dealer or auto/ farm parts store & get a new bearing.

You need to re-grease & don't overtighten when you reassemble, it's easy to do, if you don't feel comfortable, you must know a friend who can easily deal with this for a 6-pack. There should be a big nut under the dust cap, etc. etc.

Obviously, do NOT use the tractor this way, you have bearing surfaces rubbing on each other now, & can cost yourself $100's in damage, if it holds together at all!
