We had a pump go out the end of last year (December 23rd). When it was pulled the last 10 ft of pipe was filled with black goop. That goop (not quite paint consistency) apparently was from the plastic impellers disintegrating and the oil from within the pump. It took a day or 2 of pumping (8k gallons) to get cleaner water..
You can see the goop coming out of the last pipe in this pic.. and thats 590ft worth of pipe you see there (static water level is 460 ft down IIRC).
