I thought that's what I just said. The reason the problem came up to begin with was that Cat was refusing to honor warranty work unless they furnished the filters. John Deere and GM tried to coat tail ride the suit through court and all 3 of them lost. The bottom line of the suit says that unless a written agreement to use any certain support system is agreed to and signed at the time of purchase, the customer can use whatever brand and type oil-filters that he chooses as long as they are certified to the normal application of the engine and the warranty is still good.
Detroit Diesel had the same problem years back when they recommended the unconditional engine oil useage warranty on 100,000 mile oil change intervals on the 92 series class 8 engines as long as you used Chevron Delo oils.
Shell Oil and Roadway carried that one through court. The court said that any brand comparable oil would suffice the warrany claims. The engine owners found that you could'nt load a Detroit on a flat car and haul it 100,000 miles without even running the engines to keep them from using the oils of any brand.
