Not exactly. Federal law requires the manufacturer to PROVE that the customer modification was the CAUSE of the damage to deny a warranty claim. GM, for example, has successfully denied engine damage warranty claims based on the wrong weight oil being used. Bottom line is that if you use the correct grade and weight oil your warranty remains intact. If you want maximum engine life, fuel milage, ease of winter starting, etc. synthetics are the better alternative.
