I posted the other day about ways to get myself adjusted to third shift as I was taking a job, outside of being self employeed, for the next few months. On that note thanks for the replies, it"s been a tough week but I"m getting adjusted slowely but surely. Anyway, the job I got is helping install new baggage conveyors at the Charlotte airport. Since we have to go into the "secure" areas to do the work they require everydody to be finger printed and to under go a 10 year background check. I remember getting printed back in the late 80"s when I went into the Navy and they did it the old fashioned way with ink and the print cards. When they took us in the other morning to be printed they have some sort of a scanner now. The lady sprays some type of liquid on the glass and does a flat print of each finger and then a rolled print of each finger. The cool thing is as she is doing it you can see your print appear on the screen of the machine in a deep black color, just like it does when they ink them. Anyway I just thought this was a pretty interesting "new" invention and was wondering if anyone else had had their prints done this way and if anyone knew how long these "new" machines had been around.

On another note while setting there in the Operations office waiting to get everything done there were two men and a lady setting behind the counters handling things. One guy was Caucasion and the other guy and lady looked to be of some "foreign persuasion". The Caucasion guy was handling things for us while the other two went about their business. They were both talking between themselves in English and did so for maybe 10 minutes before switching over to another language that none of us setting there could understand. I don"t know about you but if I"m in a place that is making me, a 42 year old, native born American, as well as a veteran, get printed and have my background checked to get a security badge then I think it only right that those in the office doing it ought to at least be required to speak a language that everyone in this country can understand. Heck, for all we knew they were planning to blow the place up, with us in it, and none of us would have ever known what was going on until it was too late...... I don"t know, about you but it just doesn"t seem right to me. Personally I think if our government never passed another law they still ought to pass one making English our one and only "official" language and quit catering to all of those that can"t speak it.....and further to require that English only be spoken in secure areas like I"m talking about. What do you think on that???
