Part of the application process for the jobs at the Census Bureau include being "electronically" fingerprinted for a background check. "Electronic" fingerprints were electronically trnsmitted to the FBI right after they were taken. I guess I passed the check, because I start work in a couple of weeks.
My grandmother's grandparents came from Germany, and when she was a child, when she would go to visit them, she asked them to teach her to speak German. They refused, telling her that Germany was their "old country." And since they were now Americans, they would only speak "American," out of respect for their new home. Grandma will turn 99 next week...shame some of that "respect" for their new home doesn't come from some of the newer immigrants.
