The ballon was just an air trap while it is working you need to let the co2 expand but not let air in. I use a carboy depending on how much fruit you have or how much wine you will be making it has a small neck and you can buy a water air trap for about $2 and a rubber cork that will go in the top then you dont have a ballon swelling and well if it breaks you wine could be ruined or at least different that should have been.
