There may well be something to that, Toyota may have been running on their reputation of quality and got sloppy about actually checking the quality of parts supplied to them.
Toyota's part of the blame is that they designed the gas pedal to run too close to the floor so slobs could jam it by pushing the floor mat into it. I give them credit for finding a quick simple fix for the CTS pedal assys that they can make and install in a matter of weeks, to get the bad ones off the road. A little additional testing or inspection might have prevented the problem though. They claim that it took time / dust / moisture to make the defect show up, so maybe short term testing where the unit was cycled X number millions of times would not show the problem caused by long term exposure to dust and moisture. I hope they get things fixed. I have had my first Toyota for 8 months. That Prius is the best working / driving car I have ever owned. I am puzzled by the reports of an ABS problem with the Prius. After hearing about it, I tried very hard to make mine screw up on very rough or slippery roads covered with compacted snow and ice. I cant get the brakes to do anything they were not intended to do ??
