Spark plug threaded insert leaking

Kohler model K241A, with aluminum cylinder head,
spark plug fits into steel threaded insert, which is leaking compression around outer threads.
I'm told that this is a previous repair job, and that there is no other solution other than a new cyl. head.
Has anyone found some way of sealing these threads?
Please note...air cooled engine...high temps.
Also, if some magic goop is available, how do I get the Thrd'd insert out to apply it?
