The mechanical portion is a pivot point with a spring return. Yes I know that cables will freeze up when the grease is gone and water gets into the cable. These cars are drive by wire and do not have a cable or mechanical connection from the pedal to the throttle. That means that it is a little mechanical portion and a switch that adjusts electrical signals to the computer by how far the pedal is pushed.
