Toyota suspending sales

Toyota is suspending sales of many new vehicles until it figures out what is causing the accelerator problems and really doesn't know when it will resume production. Stay tuned.

good, they are the worst cars on the road. they are unsafe to the owners of the toyotas and everyone else. my wife has one of them and it will soon be for sale. I refuse to ride in it or drive it because of all of the control problems.

Made in the USA. I take it.There may be a recall and these problems fixed, Might be a little premature.Couple of mil isn't there.

on't be too quick to join the "blame America" crowd & send spokesman all over the world to apologize for America. Recalled models & North American (US + Canada)content including material + labor:
Highlander-5%
RAV4-25%
Corolla-50%
Matrix-65%
Camry-75%
Sequoia-75%
Tundra-80%
Sienna-85%

I wonder if it's only the ones made in America?
You would think that the same cars in other countries would be having the same problems as they are here.

I didn't hear anything in the news last night about problems with the same cars made overseas.

The bad part is identified. It is made by a US based company at a plant in Canada.

Toyota problem part.

It won't matter how many pedals they replace because it is most likely not a mechanical failure. If it was mechanical there would be more failures, more predictable, and it would get better with age if they are getting stuck. As mechanical objects wear, they tend to become more loose, not stuck. Also there is evidence of this problem occurring sooner than the 2005 model year, which is the first affected by the recall. Also, if Toyota is so great for calling off production and selling cars, why are they still selling and producing the more expensive Lexus product line that is just as likely to have a problem? Even if this problem started in 2005 this problem is 5 years old. That is unacceptable for any auto manufacturer. By the way I am selling the car for numerous other problems, such as the water pump just went out at 37,000 miles, it burns a little oil, the controls are horrible as I stated before, the brakes are too weak for the car, you can't see out of the back window or to your sides, the paint is the worst I've ever seen on a car (too thin, scratches off when you try to wash it) the rear window rattles to the point of giving you a headache in a 20 minute drive, the passenger side door leaks water into it, the headlights were way off alignment before she hit a deer, the hood had two paint defects where the paint was peeling (this car was bought brand new), the windows leak water into the car, I'm 6'4" and my head hits the headliner, and I can't think of anything else at the moment other than some really stupid suspension and oil filter designs.

My old 80 Chevy pickup wore out two throttle cables in it,s life. When they got a lot of miles and were worn, they would stick and hang the throttle open. That little braided steel cable would wear a tight groove in the plastic housing where the cable would stick and hang the throttle wide open. Only a big deal if your too stupid to turn off the ignition when that happens.

The mechanical portion is a pivot point with a spring return. Yes I know that cables will freeze up when the grease is gone and water gets into the cable. These cars are drive by wire and do not have a cable or mechanical connection from the pedal to the throttle. That means that it is a little mechanical portion and a switch that adjusts electrical signals to the computer by how far the pedal is pushed.

I just noticed that you said it was only a big deal if you were too stupid to turn off the ignition. That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If you turn off the engine while driving you will lose your brakes and steering while driving down the road. You have to shift it to neutral, come to a stop and then turn it off or just let the stupid thing blow up.

BS, you will lose power assist, but steering and brakes will work as normal.
You are able to drive a car with manual steering and brakes I hope. ?

Yes I know they are a fly by wire system, What I am saying is that the little mechanical actuator can get dry / dirty / corroded and stick with age , just like any other mechanical part. You were claiming that only a new tight part could be sticky.
