Tires that are used for new vehicles come down the production line and are graded by a tug machine. Those meeting OE grade are moved into inventory for companies such as GM & Ford. Tires that don't meet their specs are put into inventory and shipped to stores and dealers for replacement tires. Normally you should be able to go to the store and buy the same tire but the grade of balance etc might not be as good.
