With that line of thinking, the pound has been king all of my living memory as it's always traded higher than the US dollar...
I'm not too worried about the pound making any kind of a comeback. The US dollar has been the predominant world currency since early in WWII. That said... I'd not be surprised to see the Euro crowd out the US dollar as the dollar weakens.
I'd not be too concerned about buying gold either. What's gold going to do for you when this economy is out of oil and can't afford to buy it? Buy oil now I think...
