When you stop and think about it.... What usage does gold have today? Really? Aside from melting it into gold bars and storing it somewhere? I know it has some commercial uses in electronics. It's used as jewlrey... but I would dare say it's commercial use is not great. So... yeah, having a pile fo gold is usefull to trade IF someone else has the money and need to trade for gold. However, if you're more concerned about keeping the lights on and getting a bite to eat, obtaining US gold reserves is probably not all that high on your priority list. ...and while 'I' may well be wrong, the 'economists' of the world have a pretty stellar track record of being wrong too. I'm glad I don't listen to many of them.
