Did essentially the same thing with one of my barns, which had a concrete floor for storage of cottonseed (or anything else which needed to be kept off the ground) for feed. Two 14 ft gates met in the middle where I had a 2 1/2 inch pipe sunk in the concrete, which a 2 inch pipe fit.....loosely......into. Never had any trouble, but if one were concerned with rust, a 'plate' could be welded at the appropriate place on the inner pipe to keep water out.
