Pete, I have found that there is no substitute for a tracked machine. I have an old 955 Cat that has paid for itself many times over. You need to evaluate which would be more versitile for your application, a track loader or a track hoe. Track hoes "excavators" are cheaper and have more limits but can be used to do a variety of tasks. From your description of your project, it appears that you plan to be in the fruit business long term. To have the layout of your farm to match your needs and to enhance the production would be optimum. The earlier that you can accomplish this, the quicker you are going to be profitable. I have twiced converted marginal farms into a point of pride with my old machine. I am not always the most efficient but I have been able to do a multitude of jobs with the single machine plus my ag tractors. I feel that you would be able to do the same. It is important to get a good machine initially and if you lack the skill to evaluate the condition, hire someone to go over it. Good luck.
