Pulled Head no clue why zero compression in 1 Cylinder

In my poor old Case 310B, the Piston looks good albeit a little melted looking on the top. There is oil in cylinder, oil in coolant. The valves look and seem to function okay. Pumped compressed air into head from spark plug hole, bad cylinder held pressure like the good cylinders (with the head off). The bad cylinder's piston cycled and developed good compresion like the good cylinders. I can only conclude a bad head gasket? Would a bad valve guide do this? Any clue? How to proceed from here?
