I tested the compression before removing the head and found compression between 110-117 in the other 3 cylinders. Zero in the bad cylinder. I removed the head and took a coffee can and stretched a latex glove over the opening, secured with a rubber band. I then applied pressure on the can over each cylinder opening and cranked the engine and observed good compression (subjective) in all cylinders. To test the head, I rigged up an air compressor to the spark plug hole and applied pressure to the can over the opening in each combustion chamber and pumped air and saw good air pressure (again subjective) in each chamber. The head gasket did not appear warped neither did the head, but there was a blackened area adjacent to the bad cylinder. It also seems that there was a noticeable difference in the springs comparing intake springs to each other and exhaust springs to each other, but I noticed no leakage around the valve guides. Regards, Rick from Paso.
