I'll have to agree with Burrhead. You can't keep the corners square running the 270 degree turns as you mentioned.

I'll usually make about 3 passes around the field, then go over about 30 feet and try to keep the uncut width the same for the length of the field. This way least time is wasted turning corners or going across the end of the field.

Also, I mow clockwise around the field. The reason for this is that the bush hog rotates counter-clockwise and helps to lift the mashed grass and weeds pushed over by the left wheels. If I go counterclockwise, the blade won't lift the grass mashed down by the right wheels as well>
