I've noticed the same thing. Even new ones only seem to last a few seasons at best. I presume it's because of leakage of the working fluid inside the gage system. Even the most miniscule leak anywhere in the bulb, capillary or Bourdon tube (which are typically soldered together) lets the fluid boil off and escape and voila: Another non-working gage. I got tired of replacing the gage on my Super M every couple of years and replaced with a Teleflex electric temp gage I ordered from a marine catalog. It works great, and unless you look close you don't notice is not's the 3-color IHC gage hiding under the hood. Bob M
