I dated a girl in high school who was named George Ann, and her nickname was Jo Ann. Then a couple of years later I dated a beautiful brunette whose name was Margaret, but her nickname was George. My friend Tater was called that because his last name was Taylor. Had a brother-in-law the family called Stinky...and his sisters were Burf, Gums, and Duck [the one I was married to.] And one of my old friends was known as Wino because he could do the George Carlin comedy bit about fictional DJ "Scott Lame".
But as a rule, I really don't know that many folks who go by nicknames.
