A few questions about SEDIMENT BOWLS ???

I was at a tractor show yesterday and seeing so many tractors with and without sediment bowls, I am wondering: 1. Is their any advantage of a sediment bowl over a fuel filter (other than the fact that it has a fuel shut-off valve built in)? 2. Are glass sediment bowl assemblies still being made? 3. Do any manufacturers of any product still use them on brand new stuff?
