Part of that is true.The biggest issue was that in the late 90's every one was putting in fiber. Thinking they would sell/rent the band width. Fiber rings were going in every where. Then they found a way to get more band width out of existing fibers. More than double. That put a big anchor on all the new fiber rings.All kinds of unused fiber in the ground. Plus all the telcompanies thought they would make a killing on long distance. HA! That worked well.
I suspect some day you will get free land line with a High Speed internet contract/ Cell deal/tv deal. Any way thats what I would do if I ran it. Tele switches are useless if no one uses them.
