I think you may be a bit confused. 'Draft' refers to the direction of airflow through the carb. The method of fuel supply doesn't enter into the equation. An 'updraft' carb draws air in from the bottom, 'up' through the carb and into the intake. A 'downdraft' carb pulls air in the top, 'down' through the carb and into the intake. There are also 'sidedraft' carbs, quite popular on sporty cars and motorcycles. As to why the tractor preference for updrafts, I haven't a clue.
