I used AVG free edition for several years, until I switched to Vista and a new computer. When the free product that came with it expired I switched to a paid version of AVG in order to also get a firewall. I had formerly used Zone Alarm firewall but it wasn"t yet ready for Vista.

Everything worked great until this past July when an update from AVG carried some flaw that rendered the program useless. I couldn"t even access the control panel.

Since it was a paid version I sought out AVG support. Auto response received--telling me to do all of the things I had already done. Sent several more emails to the company and to their U.S. reps and never did get more than an automated response.

AFTER SIX WEEKS of not having an anti-virus running and being extremely careful of what sites I visited and what emails I opened I finally said to heck with AVG and switched to AVAST.

When I uninstalled the useless AVG I received an automated response asking me why I was no longer using their product? Talk about frustration! They only seem to care IF you use their product, not IF it works.

AVG was the best I have used to date, but if it won"t work there is no reason to continue having it. Lack of product support soured me on paid AVG and of course that carries over to their free ware also in my opinion. I still have no idea why one cannot telephone AVG for paid version help and instead must rely on useless auto responses.

Bummer as I think it excellent EXCEPT when it doesn"t work at all. Anyone like the remaining few months of paid AVG that I still have and no longer use?
