One thing for certain. davepal certainly has zero idea about electronics. Sat TV goes down because home owners want to smallest, cheapest dish that doesn't stand out. Also rare is the dish that has been peaked and tweaked for max gain with a meter. Installers get them operating "good enough" on clear days but being off the ideal position. The signal can be several db less than whats available. If the manufacture says a 12" dish will do. They are saying you really need an 18" dish.
