If it was your mail, IMMEDIATELY freeze your credit. Thats one of the quickest ways identity thieves steal your identity and go get credit cards in your name, run them up and you get the bill, and then have to deal with clearing your name. You can do it online. Go to Experian, Trans Union and Equifax on line. With your credit "Frozen", you will get either a letter in the mail, or a phone call checking to see if you are actually applying for credit. At minimum the thief gets denied on the spot. Best case is the cops grab him and you don't have to deal with collection agencies that won't accept even a police report of identity theft. Trust me, I know. It took a lawyer and court action to prove I wasn't responsible for a couple credit cards and a doctor bill.
