For the amount of money required to buy a mower and tractor in order to claim the tax deduction you could earn more money off of investing the amount and hiring the work done. I started to say off of interest but is kind of a joke these days.
One should also take into consideration the depreciation of the tractor, its upkeep, safe storage, possibly insurance, etc. before deciding for or against buying one.
The folk on this site like to use their tractors so perhaps one living near you would hire out to custom mow for you for a year so that you will have more time to make choices for a unit if you still desire one.
And yes, farmers can be a little huffy at times. Sorry.
