FIrst of all you should use Hy-Trans hydraulic oil like you said. The rear end where the pto shaft and the rear end gears are must be filled prior to putting the top back on the tractor. it does hold 5 gallons.
the shifter area is the same oil. the fluid level plug was on the right side of my 424 gas burner.
The hydraulic lift and power steering is in a resivoir under the seat and is seperate from the oil we are discussing but it uses the same type.
