The transfer pumps on these are nothing but trouble. In addition to hard starting you may also notice an occasional hesitaton while driving. The bad part is much of the time they don't quit all together they just act up. If possible a psi test would do a lot to determine the condition of the fuel pump. Many of the new fuel pumps are bad right out of the box also. Fuel pumps aside a fuel filter that is improperly installed could also cause hard starting. The gasket can not seat properly and allow fuel to run back to the tank. Any other fuel leaks around the injector lines or a bad timing sensor could do the same. If you have a push in adjustable gap timing sensor try decreasing the gap.
