Delco remy 1108073 starter is a 6 volt starter used on the 540 series cockshutt from 58-59 model years according to the Delco Remy catalog I have. Delco part numbers are as follows:
Brushes(4 used)-811553 Brush Spring-813521 Brush Holder-810226 Armature-1943709 Commutator End Frame-1908580 Field Coil upper or right-826282 Field Coil lower or left-826281 Drive End Bushing-1942504 Drive or Bendix-1943450 Drive Housing-1943708
I have seen a few of the drive housings cracked/broke on the 540's for some reason. If 550Doug can send you a parts breakdown of the starter, you can match the Cockshutt numbers to the Delco numbers from the desriptions above. The Delco numbers should be able to be changed up at any Napa/Carquest type place. Beaware that that these numbers are old. Info comes from a 1961 Delco Farm Equipment catalog. These tractors were however still being produced in 1961.

An improperly torqued capscrew on an engine head or a shear bolt that is too hard on the driving shaft of a bushog can create havoc and make an expensive and uncalled for repair. Let’s examine the purpose and design of these fasteners in order to ensure their proper use. Fasteners are probably one of the aspects of mechanics that is given the least amount of thought.
