A few weeks ago I had to replace the water pump in my 96 Dodge Pickup. I also replaced the thermostat while I had it down that far. All went well and it wasn't until a cold snap here in TN that I noticed my heater was not putting out hot air like it used to and it took longer for it to produce that heat. The stat I put in it was OEM 195 degree I believe. While under the hood I noticed that the bottom hose was stone cold and stayed that way no matter how long you ran it. The top of the radiator is cold also and the new cap I put on is cold too. I can even take the cap off without any pressure buildup. After talking this over with a friend of mine he said it sounded like the stat was stuck open so I put in a new one. I now have heat inside but still have the cold bottom hose and cap and no pressure in the system. Is this normal or am I overlooking some simple or major? BTW I am not overheating.
