On the mountain here does take the easy paths, bucks prefer mountain laurel or brush, close to their does.
I'm cutting a new driveway currently. Does greet me almost every night on my way home, don't bolt from the driveway (easiest path) until I'm 75' away on my Cat. Never see a buck. Mornings, the driveway tracks look like a deer interstate.
My hunters know to watch the does, hoping that a buck will show himself. They've taken some impressive racks this year.
I don't get it. This is while they always say does are better eating.
No idea what the ratio is, but Virginia seems to have more and more doe days. And no shortage of deer.
Second farm over has a high dollar hunt club, $1300 for your one buck, minimum antler size specified. They claim they're improving the herd but I don't see how. Or maybe that's where the large bucks here come from.
